Radical change comes when you're trying to solve a very simple problem. The founders of the Hoka® brand know this. They had a long-term goal of improving their endurance race times by designing a shoe that would go faster and better downhill - but in the process of figuring out how to do that, they unfortunately inadvertently discovered running shoes.
Their new shoes not only helped improve the downhill run, but also improved the uphill experience. And then down again. And up again. It turns out that redesigning a shoe that helps an athlete cover a distance of 100 miles in challenging conditions can help all runners deliver a great performance. While the founders ran trails at night, their day job was in gravity sports. They were involved in several innovations in winter sports and cycling - including parabolic skis. Every day we asked the same question: "How do we go even faster?" They answered it with a shoe, which at first, but some refused. But a few runners welcomed it, tried it out, and, world wonder, those runners started winning races, and those who initially refused quickly became wary. And now Hoka® is one of the market leaders in running shoes.
