Reebok x Cardi B
For her 28th birthday in late 2020, Cardi B has gifted herself her first collaboration on custom Reebok x Cardi B Club C sneakers . The American rap superstar and Grammy Award winner projects a sometimes slightly violent, sporty elegance into her collections, but as a result it works well not only for physical activities, but also as part of an everyday or even social outfit.
The first two colorways of the specially adapted Club C model are certainly not the last that has come and will come from the Reebok x Cardi B collaboration. If you want to follow the combined achievements of a music icon and a sports brand with over 120 years of history into the future, ensuring you don't miss a piece, check this category every now and then. But now to the products themselves.
Reebok Club C
Pure old-school and sneaker in the true sense of the word. The Reebok Club C was created in 1985 as the shoes of tennis champions, hence the letter C in its name. The minimalist design, which the conventional style of dressing for tennis players then demanded, has survived almost unchanged to this day. If you want to break away from following trends, are tempted by retro or want to indulge in the footwear that Husak's children dreamed of, the Reebok Club C is the shoe for you.
Materials
PU synthetic leather: (Polyurethane leather) is the most widely used synthetic alternative to genuine leather, which is created by applying a layer of polyurethane to a base material such as polyester or cotton. This material is very popular because of its high wear resistance and its ability to perfectly imitate the look and texture of faux leather. Unlike cheaper PVC, PU leather is softer, more flexible and somewhat breathable, which increases wearing comfort. It is naturally water-repellent, easy to clean and does not fade as quickly in the sun as natural materials. It is often used in footwear to reinforce toes, heels and side panels where it provides the necessary support and protection.
Rubber: The rubber sole is a traditional and highly reliable element in the construction of footwear, valued especially for its extreme mechanical resistance and grip. This contact layer is made of natural or synthetic rubber, which is characterized by its high density and elasticity. Due to its physical properties, it provides excellent traction on a wide range of surfaces, from smooth asphalt to unpaved terrain. In addition, the rubber is naturally waterproof and resistant to temperature fluctuations, ensuring stability and a secure stride in a variety of climatic conditions.
J.W. Foster, the founder of Reebok, created the first studded running shoe (the predecessor of today's trainers) in 1895. Reebok shoes did not begin to be produced under their current name until many decades later, in 1958. The company's name was given by two of Foster's grandsons who found the word in an old Afrikaans dictionary. Its meaning was the naming of a species of antelope, symbolizing the speed and grace that a man running in a Reebok represents.
Reebok footwear gained its fame especially in the 1980s when aerobics was experiencing a huge boom. Women's Reebok shoes went on a tear back then, which helped all the other industries that Reebok was involved in. In the mid-1980s, the originally English company greatly expanded its sphere of influence overseas, and Reebok sneakers began to become a global phenomenon.
Retro models and combat sports
Despite the public's initial scepticism, Reebok shoes now play a strong role in streetwearculture outside of sport . The idea of resurrecting several retro models has contributed to this. These include the Reebok Daytona, Instapump Fury or Reebok Aztrek sneakers, which perfectly captured the retro trend of recent years. Reebok is now a subsidiary of German giant adidas, among others, and its current policy is to support sporting events around the world. Some of the most famous ones include the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). It is therefore no surprise that Conor McGregor has become the main face of the new Reebok Zig Kinetica.
